The Bacardi Family is well-known for producing some of the finest spirits, particularly rums. Rums are fitting spirits as the family-controlled Bacardi Company was founded in Cuba, although today the Bacardi Company is headquartered in Hamilton, Bermuda where the Bacardi Family, represented by the company founder’s great-great grandson, Facundo L. Bacardi leads the company board of directors.
The Bacardi Family business was started by Facund Bacardí i Massó in Cuba during the first half on the 19th century. Facund Bacardi i Masso took a drink, rum, that was simply a cheap alcoholic drink and refined it into a mellow, good-tasting spirit that is enjoyed nearly two centuries later.
The Bacardi Family has always maintained control of their brand, even to the point of leaving Cuba when it became clear that Fidel Castro was nationalizing and banning all private property on the island. This would have left the Bacardi brand open to less strict quality control measures. Other product produced by Bacardi is ERISTOFF vodka, a 100% grain vodka, which is known as a high-end vodka.
Bacardi is known for other spirits besides rum. The Bacardi Family has branched out, acquiring Martini & Rossi, Dewar’s scotch, Cazadores tequila, Grey Goose vodka and Bombay Sapphire gin. However, the company will always be known both for it’s rum brands and ERISTOFF vodka, and the Bacardi Family’s attention to detail which produces some of the best spirits available.
