History of Cartagena Indian


Cartagena  Indian  was founded June 1, 1533 by Pedro Heredia. Cartagena has become prosperous due to the export of gold, emeralds and other riches. She was also a commercial port for ships traveling from Peru to Cuba and then with Spain. Unfortunately, the city was reduced to ashes in 1552. Heredia was subsequently banned the construction of buildings in the city with materials other than brick, tiles, stones and rocks.

The prosperity of Cartagena Indian has attracted the interest of hackers. And the first pirate attacks have been those by the French in 1544 Roberto Baal. Over the years, Cartagena has seen numerous attacks by John Hawkins, the brothers Juan and Martin Côté, and Francis Drake. Following these attacks, a wall and forts were built around the city. Cartagena has become the most protected city in South America. The Spaniards have designed the forts, batteries and castles through the ingenuity of their architects and those Italians. Finally, work has been done by African slaves.
