Legends and Realities of the Port of Cartagena

puerto-cartagena

From the port of Cartagena de Indias spoken and talked a lot. Some are just myths, some are real, but what is certain is the important of this enclave in antiquity and which continues today. Ships from three continents Cartagena gave added value that defined forever the character of its people, open and multicultural.

Cartagena was once the main gateway to Europe and South America had an important so great that the Spanish relinquished it only after two declarations of independence. Anyone who enters it by boat from Panama, you will see two distinct entrances: a main port, modern, established large vessels to sail smoothly, and an older one, with a more natural input but it is currently impossible access for ships of considerable size. The reason must be sought in the bottom of the sea: the old Spanish who settled in Cartagena threw rocks at the bottom for enemy ships aground and enjoy a “surprise defense. Currently, it has not been possible to remove those rocks and only small boats can make use of that input.

CARTAGENA
