Bogota as a Capital City

The capital and largest city of Colombia is located almost in the center of the country at an altitude of 2600 m. Bogota combines a mix of traditional Colombian and Spanish colonial influences. Many historical monuments have been preserved as the Capitol City Palace and the cathedral on the main square, Plaza Bolivar. Bogotá is also home to the Gold Museum, with its unique collection of over 100 000 objects of pre-Columbian art. About 50 miles south of Bogotá lies Zipaquira, a region known for its many salt mines, one of which houses the famous Salt Cathedral (capable of containing 8,400 people). Guatavita, two hours by bus from Bogota, is known for its Laguna Guatavita, the ritual center and sacred lake Indian Muiscas.

With the funicular instead you can enjoy a particular landscape because, after the renewal of 2003, now the cars have the glass roof.

Accommodation and others in San Agustin in Colombia

Accommodation and others in San Agustin in Colombia

Located in southwestern Colombia, St. Augustine is famous for being one of the bases used to visit the large number of pre-Columbian sculptures that are in the valleys of the area.

It is a quite tiny, as little as 30,000 inhabitants, with a temperature quite pleasant throughout the year, around 20 degrees and half-lives, especially in tourism revenues and the ecological and archaeological culture and the work of their land green.

The people are exceptionally friendly, as usual throughout the country “and you find many tips on San Agustin Archaeological Park and other tourist options in talks with the premises without having to go head to travel agencies that populate the streets adjacent to the town square. Once you have done you a general idea of the area and what options you want to do, and will be ready to grope prices for agencies.

Accommodation and others in San Agustin in Colombia

As for lodging, but I think there is a small area in the hotel, I stayed in a family house. Not that I would see any guide or go with references to another person, but got out of the rickety van that brought us from Popayan bounced by more than 7 hours, the man who picked us up at the cross roads to take us to St. Augustine said the option. I went with an English couple who also were eager to go stumbling around looking for accommodation for the people-well-so I accept it rained and we ended up in the house of Louis.

Luis is a family man and lives at home with his wife, daughter and grandmother. The rooms are very new and well cared for and the price-flexible, so I could see later-is very acceptable for mid-season, 14,000 pesos a night. Although he had paid less in some places here have private bathroom and television and the truth is that the family is good people, so I decided to spend the two nights I stayed there.

The income of this type are important to many families in the area, so I would advise you that I will stay this way rather than do more established hotels. Remember that then you can help these people and it will wear you an exquisite and good conversations about the places and people you meet.

To visit around the village you can choose to do so on foot, horseback or by jeep. For the latter two will inform you of prices and so on-as I said-in the tourist offices, but usually families that host tourists usually work with specific guidelines and you will comment on the possibility of doing with them.

Many people go to St. Augustine to relax because not only is the archaeological theme but is located in a beautiful area that allows taking it and enjoying tranquility of nature and peopling.

I stayed there a couple of nights and during the third bus trip to Bogota. I discuss in the next on the lively capital city.

Transportation To Colombia

Transportation To Colombia

Thanks to its location at the northern tip of South America, Colombia is served by many flights, relatively cheap, from Europe and North America. Most travelers arrive at the international airport of Bogota, but airports Cartagena and San Andres also accommodate flights from abroad.

Colombia is accessible by road from Venezuela and Ecuador. Travelers wishing to cross the border through dangerous Arauca-El Amparo de Apure and Puerto Carreno, Paez Puerta to enter Venezuela have an interest in learning about the security at their embassy. In March 1995, troops were massed on either side of the border following attacks against Colombian guerrilla positions in the Venezuelan army.

The more adventurous can enter Colombia from Panama via the Darien Gap, this dangerous section of jungle which the Pan American Cup. It is a journey of two weeks, made at the company of a guide, and which requires a high degree of organization, of courage and luck. The guerrillas are active in the regions and kidnappings are not rare: it is not the kind of trip to be undertaken lightly.

You can also enter Colombia through a port on the Pacific coast or the Caribbean coast. Maritime traffic is more important on the Caribbean Sea: Many boats serving the United States, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean islands and Venezuela. Barranquilla, Cartagena, Santa Marta and Turbo are the main ports of the Caribbean coast, while the Pacific coast’s main port of Buenaventura.

Transportation To Colombia

Colombia was the first country in South America to adopt in 1919 its own airline, SCADTA, today Avianca. Its network of domestic flights is now the densest of Latin America. Policy cielos abiertos (open skies), established by the Government in 1991, allowed the introduction of several new airlines and aircraft of all types, large jets gear most doubtful. The domestic airfares are relatively high (Avianca and SAM airlines are the most expensive), but some newly established companies offering promotional fares extremely advantageous. Remember to reconfirm your reservations at least 72 hours in advance and expect to numerous contingencies regarding schedules. The tax on domestic flights is 5 USD.

Primary mode of transportation to travel within the country, buses have the advantage of being economic, efficient and offer a very extensive network. However, with the exception of trunk roads are in a catastrophic state. In cities, buses are slow and crowded, better opt for taxis are cheap and accept long commutes.

Besides the bus, there are also chivas (an old wooden bus, traveling mostly on small roads) and collectivos (taxis used for fixed routes).

There is no rail network and travel by its own means (by car or motorbike) is a solution to expensive and dangerous.

Maritime traffic, especially along the Pacific coast, no road dessert is irregular and only rudimentary.

Located north of Bogota in the traditional neighborhood of Usaquen, this beautiful three-story restaurant has made its flag and uncertainty unmistakable. The variety of spaces and decorative styles make this beautiful corner in place for any time of day and any mood.

Here you can enjoy from jazz festival,  beautiful sunsets can be viewed from the balconies open to Usaquen park. The letter is neat in grilled meats, arepas and tostones, but each time frame of the day is marked by specific specialties.

Along with its walls decorated with original murals, the waiter serves cappuccinos, aguadepanelas (typical based beverage Colombian sugar cane) and chocolates, or if you prefer, the Carajillo Punishment, a haunting combination of peach juice, passion fruit and grenadine.

On weekends, the brunch has been established (combining breakfast and lunch) idle without specific time and a background suggestive of Cuban music.
