It is never advisable to book your stay at hotels at the last minute. Doing so simply opens you up to too many risks. The main risk is that you simply may find that all of the rooms are sold. It is also possible that you find out that you will need to pay a higher rate than was offered months ago. Neither of these outcomes are desirable.
To book in advance, you will need to either call the hotel, or go online to the hotel website. Online reservations tend to be safer than calling, as front desk employees are often busy with customers. This leaves you open to the possibility of human error. Not that any front desk employee would purposely mess up your reservation, but accidents do happen.
In some cases, you may be able to make a reservation as far as a year in advance. In others, you may be able to only do it a certain number of months in advance. Several months in advance should be far enough into the future that you guarantee yourself the best rooms and best rates.
Nearly all hotels will allow you to complete the reservation process well in advance. As soon as you know your dates of travel, start considering what type of accommodations you desire. Planning ahead is always the best course of action, and is particularly important in regard to traveling.
